How to find the rafting center?
You can come by car or we can arrange comfortable transportation from Sofia or Bansko. It is located in the heart of the Kresna gorge.
Bring a towel, socks, shorts, and a synthetic T-shirt. At the rafting center, you will be equipped with a wetsuit, boots, helmet, and vest and we will transport you to the starting point. There we will have a safety talk. The course is 12 + km long and is located in the heart of the Kresna Gorge, the river difficulty is class 2 to class 4.
Our rafting base has terraces above the river under the shade of the trees. Enjoying a snack and watching the passing rafting boats will make a proper end to the rafting adventure. Homemade Bulgarian yogurt, cheese, and jam are delicious temptations as well.

Frequently asked questions about rafting in Bulgaria
I’m a beginner. What would you recommend?
Rafting on the Struma River in the Kresna Gorge is the most popular section in Bulgaria. It is suitable for complete beginners and people looking for adrenaline. According to the wishes of the participants, a calmer or more dynamic route/line in the river is chosen. On the Tara and Arda rivers, you can immerse yourself in a different atmosphere, resembling expedition rafting.
Is rafting in Bulgaria safe?
Yes! Commercial rafting tours have been held on the Struma River since 2002. Safety is ensured through regular participation in “Rafting Guide” courses and “Wild Water Rescue” courses. The traditions created by Rafting Club Reflip put your safety first and guarantee a tour full of emotions and adrenaline.
What is the best time for rafting in Bulgaria?
The rafting season is from March to November. When the air temperatures are above 15 degrees, you can get wet and enjoy paddling with the right equipment.
In the spring, the river is full, colder, faster and with bigger waves. Neoprene suits and jackets are used for comfort.
In the summer, the river is more technical, warmer and slower between the rapids.
Smiles are guaranteed at all times.

What if it rains? Best time for rafting?
The best time is when it rains! Rafting is a sport where rain brings smiles and does not interfere in any way. This means more water in the river. During the descent you will definitely get wet. A water jacket and a second wetsuit are provided for people who are worried about rainy weather. Some of the most beautiful views in the Kresna Gorge are in the rain. The murmur of the drops and the fog on the peaks paint a memorable picture. For enthusiasts – when it snows.
What should I bring?
- Synthetic T-shirt/ thermal underwear
- Swimsuit
- Socks
- Towel
We do not recommend cotton t-shirts.
How many people fit in the rafting boat?
The boats are specially designed for rafting. We have different types of boats depending on the size of the group and the level of the river.
4 to 8 people comfortably paddle together in one boat. If you are a larger group, we will divide you into boats, and you will go down together.
I have medical complications. Can I come rafting?
It is a good idea to let us know about your medical condition before the descent. We will not stop you from participating. We need to know so we can react appropriately. If you need to carry medication with you, our guides have dry bags for the river.
Do I need to be able to swim to go rafting?
No! The use of a life jacket (PFD – Personal Flotation Device) is mandatory for all water activities organized by “Reflip”. Some people cannot swim, but dare to enter the calm water or even jump off the cliffs with an instructor next to them.
Alcohol and drugs?
Absolutely prohibited before descending. You must be in a clear mind in the river. After descending, cold beers and delicious meals await you in the restaurant next to our base. If you are looking for a view and a colorful atmosphere, 10 km from the rafting base there is the restaurant “Debeli Dab” in the village of Stara Kresna. For more information: DebeliDab.eu
Is there an age limit?
There is no age limit. We recommend that you check with us before promising your child to go into the river with you. It depends on the water level on the day of your descent, the size of the child and the weather conditions. The approximate range is 6 – 70 years, but we have had children as young as 4 years old in the summer.
How and when can I book?
Any time of the year. Call or write. Last-minute is also possible. We recommend contacting us at least a week before the descent to reserve a place.
What does Reflip mean?
The name of the club comes from the word “Flip”. The most fun part of rafting. Our instructors have trained countless flips with enthusiasts over the years and we know how to react in a real situation!
