A wedding ceremony on the banks of a transparent blue river, and guests board rafting boats – this is the way guests arrive at a wedding party on the Tara River in Bosnia.
After the main ceremony, the guests and friends of the newlyweds, Spasiana and Veselin Paunovski, will get on the rafts and go down the river to travel 17 km of white water.
Spasiyana and Veselin meet on Struma River, where Veselin Paunovski founded and runs his company Rafting and Kayaking club Reflip. This is his profession and passion. This also gives an answer to the question why it is in the river so important for every celebration.
The wedding dress of the bride is a white neoprene wetsuit, specially ordered by a Bulgarian manufacturer – Runawave. In the river, the newlyweds exchange rings and kisses. Of course, a bouquet is also traditionally thrown, which in this case is a rescue rope.
The celebration continues, with guests heading down the river for a 17-kilometer descent. For many of them this is their first time. In the spring, the Tara River is a place where only professionals can descend on it. This part of the celebration lasts for nearly 5 hours. There are no toasts, alcohol and salads. The culmination of this trip is a stop at one of the most remarkable places – a wonderful waterfall with chilled ice waters. It is in this place that the newlyweds break the traditional Bulgarian bread.
“We feel comfortable doing it, even though there was fatigue, a lot of paddling, we put the guests to an incredible challenge. We realize it, but I did not see one without a smile today, “says the bride.
