Kayaking around Zakynthos, Greese
Zakynthos or “Flower of the East” is the third largest island in the Ionian Sea. The island itself needs no special introduction, probably everyone has heard (and perhaps dreamed ) of its beautiful caves, beaches, and sea. One of the most popular tourist destinations, but we will try to touch within 6 days to the most beautiful parts of it – The Blue Caves, the beach Navagio, Carey caves and of course, if we are lucky to see and observe live turtles Carreta Carreta or why not a representative of the monk seal.
Program for a kayak trip around the island of Zakynthos, Greece:
Day 1. We will start our trip from Sofia, Levski Stadium at 6 o`clock. We will use the night to travel and reach our destination in the morning so we can catch the ferry.
Day 2. After arriving we will arrange a short break in which everyone will be able to freshen up. A transfer is going to be organized to the beach Agios Nikolaos. We will prepare the kayaks, we will make a short briefing and everyone will have the opportunity to try the boats at sea. Will try different scenarios – what to do when a boat is flipped, how to self-rescue and we can organize short kayak race to nearby islands for those who wish. In the afternoon we get on the kayaks and head to the so-called Blue Caves. Late in the evening, we will return back to the camp on the island of Zakynthos.
Day 3. This day we will head to the southern part of the island, Lagana Bay. All day we will spend circling the bay itself and the two islands in it. We will visit two beaches, one of the island Maratonisi, other so-called Gerak beach where the turtles Caretta-Caretta lay their eggs. With luck, we might see and swim with turtles.
Day 4. We wake up, after breakfast and coffee we will head to Lagana Bay, but this time the goal is to kayak to the western part and go out on the high seas to the west of the island of Zakynthos itself. Amazing views are waiting for us – we will pass through several large and beautiful arches, we will kayak walk to the Kerry caves, where there will be an opportunity for a stop at the beach. If the group has enough strength, will kayak trough Mizitres islands, which are two huge rock hills in the midst of the sea.
Day 5. A day for relaxation – If you want, you can the pool, or we can organize a walk by the island’s capital where you can visit historical sites there. If we have time, on the way back we will walk to see from the highs – Navagio beach, which has a famous abandoned ship there.
Day 6. Rested this day we have a real challenge. After breakfast, we will go to Porto Vromi Bay. From there is the shortest approach to the beach Navagio with a kayak. If we can reach it very much depends on meteorological conditions and the sea. In any weather, this place has boats that continuously go through and it is possible to reach the beach with the shipwreck. If the sea doesn`t allow us, we will go kayaking around the bay itself, which is also very beautiful and full of caves and bizarre formations.
Day 7. Depart back to Bulgaria. Along the way, we will stop for rest and lunch. Expext a late arrival.
